wunderkammer

i just stumbled across this wonderful blog: wunderkammer is a reconsideration of a "cabinet of curiosities:" crocheted specimens from early natural history collections and embroidered fictive science textbook illustrations

seseli gummiferum

i recently finished a quilt for a friend's baby based on Karl Blossfeldt's "Natural Art Forms". it was a relatively quick project, only about 6 or 8 days total, since there was no applique. i think it turned out really nice, though.
(seseli gummiferum is the scientific name for moon carrot, whatever that is... anyway, it's the darling plant that the quilt is based on).

rugs update

a while ago, i wrote that i was looking for rugs for my apartment. well, i found them on ebay. it's a great place for rugs if you're willing to buy based on pictures. the prices are great - $150 for the larger one, $60 for the runner.

i like this crazy skirt designed to hide the wearer from possible attackers. just an innocent vending machine... nothing to see here...

the deep

i really want this cool book - the deep, by claire nouvian - it's full of photos of crazy looking deep sea creatures. if i can figure out how to preserve their transparency and luminosity, i'd love to use them for a quilt design... i mean, look at that the one that looks like giant lips wrapped in christmas lights!
check out the book here (although it's cheaper to buy it on amazon).

pek at virginia beach

we went to virginia beach this weekend, and, of course, pek came along. dogs are allowed on the beach after labor day, so he was able to have his first ocean experience. he loved it.

it has been pointed out to me that i'm not really on top of this whole blogging thing. i've been busy quilting! i'm almost done with the pond quilt for wee fergus - photos soon. anyway, i'll try to be better with posts. here are a couple of things that i found during my lunch break today:

ancestree by patricia weusten, a recent graduate from the Design Academy Eindhoven, where she specialized in industrial design. you can find her online here.

also, check out three potato four, a cute new online shop - three potato four

more craftiness soon...

radish rattle

i got the idea for a radish rattle after learning to crochet in the round from my japanese amigurumi crochet books. a friend found me this egg-shaped rattle and i crocheted a little radish suit around it. i love the alliteration: radish rattle radish rattle radish rattle. i sent this one off to wee isabel today.

lace fence

as described by the dutch designers, this bitchin' lace fence walks the line - "hostility versus kindness, industrial versus craft" - see more about it here.

SEA MONKEYS!!!

stay tuned for sea monkey progress...

tube dress

i found this adorable fabric with a pattern that ran from selvedge to selvedge. i wanted to create a dress made from a tube of this fabric and shaped by darts and pleats only. i began it pre-pek, but finally finished it recently. i like it.

this is the dress in progress:
